Need For Speed: Rivals Review

December 10th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher 1 Comment

Have Electronic Arts managed to capture the power of the Playstation 4 in this next evolution of Need for Speed?
Unfortunately not!

I have been a fan of the Need for Speed games in the past and enjoyed the fun and annoyance that went hand in hand of winning races, earning money and choosing the right upgrades to help you become a better racer and competitor.

With regards to this incarnation you get to chose the side of the titular rivals you want to play as, cops or racers and they let you play a starter set of missions as both so you get used to the handling of both types of cars. Both sides have vehicles that are upgradable and there’s money to be earned in racing and stopping racers to help you along the way.

The control engine is simple to use and you’ll fly along from the get go, but I was just left wanting more for some reason…….

A nice touch however is the AllDrive feature which let’s you play alongside other gamers as the majority of the game does take place in the online environment, so I’m pretty sure an online account with PS will be required to play this game to its full potential.

The gameplay however is incredibly repetitive and became very tedious and to be brutally honest it’s a game I’m already contemplating trading in. More to the point the graphics are incredibly poor, when you take into account Grand Turismo 6 has hit the market at the same time and looks far far superior on an inferior machine.

I’m sure that the game will appeal to a certain generation of gamers, however it just doesn’t do it for me.
