Taking place before the events of the show, Walking Dead: Survival Instinct follows Dixon brothers Daryl and Merle as they fight their way across the Georgia countryside to reach Atlanta.
Developer Terminal Reality believes that using actors from the TV show will increase authenticity, and enable the team to reveal some surprises.
“Our goal is to shape Daryl authentically, chronicling everything that happens to him from the initial Wildfire Global Outbreak until he joins with Rick Grimes’s group at that quarry near Atlanta,” explained creative director Drew Haworth to Digital Spy.
“And on the way, we’ll reveal a couple of our own interesting backstory surprises that fans haven’t already gleaned from the series.”
“Players will have the opportunity to meet some interesting characters and have a hand in deciding their fate,” he added. “Oh, and there are some really cool zombies.”
Announced earlier this year, the Activision-published title is a first-person shooter based on the AMC television series.
The game will attempt to portray the Walkers from the series as closely as possible, including the way they react to sound and smell.
Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is tipped to release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC some time in 2013.
