The man who was once Robin and then Nightwing, partner to Gotham’s legendary Dark Knight, Batman is set to become… a spy?
Yes, according to the folks at Comics Alliance, Dick Grayson will get a new series kicking off on July 2nd called simply Grayson and in it he’ll retire the mask and armour for a tuxedo (we made the tuxedo bit up). The new series will be written by Tim Seeley (Revival, Batman Eternal) and Tom King, “a former CIA counterterrorism officer who wrote the superhero book The Once Crowded Sky”. Which is sort of cool.
SPOILER
With Grayson having been apparently killed in current Nightwing story Forever Evil, after having his identity revealed to the world, it seems odd that he will now be a spy since everyone knows who he is. Also, he’s, em, dead – but then, it’s a comic book. However the writers tell Comic alliance that “Grayson faking his death plays a role in that”.
SPOILER ENDS
“Grayson will be wearing a costume designed by series artist Mikel Janin that has a very Tom Cruise-in-Mission Impossible feel.” The site goes on.
He will be an agent of Spyral from Batman Incorporated. And the moral ambiguity of what it takes to get the bad guys will be something Batman isn’t happy about in the book.
So expect sparks to fly in that relationship then…
