The publisher said that eight of the world’s best players will compete in each of the games. The first Street Fighter IV qualifier will be this weekend’s Evolution Fighting Game Championships (EVO) 2013.
While not having the resources to run the type of tournament they did last year for Street Fighter’s 25th Anniversary, Capcom said they wanted to continue to support the gaming community with something similar.
The firm have also partnered with the World Cyber Games to continue to pursue their eSports and fill the void from last year’s 25th Anniversary event.
They told GameSpot that the event will be held in December in the Bay Area. Qualifiers will only be held for Street Fighter IV, and they will be partnering with with current community run events for their winners.
Elsewhere, the publisher has announced that five new characters will be coming to Street Fighter IV during a panel this weekend at the EVO.
Rolento, Poison, Hugo, and Elena will be joining the cast. Each of the four new characters have been included in Capcom’s Street Fighter X Tekken. The fifth and final new character has never been in a Street Fighter game, Capcom said. Along with the five new characters, six new stages also being added.
The new characters along with balance changes will come out sometime in early 2014, with a name and trailer to be shown this week before the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Finals.
