So the guys over at Screenrant were lucky enough to speak with Kevin Feige during the recent Thor: The Dark World press junket. The discussion revolved around MacGuffins (plot devices, object of desire), of past and upcoming films. The Avengers had Loki’s scepter and the Tesseract, Thor; The Dark World will have Malekith the Accursed seeking The Aether. They asked Feige if all this would be leading up to Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, last seen in Odin’s vault:
“Well, I don’t know that I would spell it out that clearly, necessarily, but certainly fans of the comics could surmise that all of this is leading somewhere. That Joss’ decision to have Thanos turn around and smile for the audience at the end of ‘Avengers’, our reveal, was always the plan.”
Feige continues speaking about the MacGuffins of the Avengers and Thor 2, teasing that they tie into the Guardians of the Galaxy:
“…And where it goes from there, we’ll see… But yes, the MacGuffin of ‘Guardians’ certainly plays into MacGuffins of the past.”
So what do you think? Will Thanos be wielding the Infinity Gauntlet? Perhaps against the combined might of the Avengers, the Guardians, and others?
