According to The Hollywood Reporter Paramount Pictures has hired Juan Antonio Bayona ( The Impossible, The Orphanage) to direct the World War Z sequel.
The film based on the novel by Max Brooks, was one the summer’s surprise hits, grossing $202.4 million domestically and $337.6 million overseas for a $540 million worldwide total. What was even more impressive was the movie’s solid reviews in the face of well known issues with the third act that necessitated complicated and costly rewrites and reshoots.
No writers are attached at this stage, but Bayona will oversee the writing process. The studio has not set a release date yet.
