In 1991 I was reading a lot – a lot! – of comics and one of the titles that really stuck with me to this day was Bill & Ted’s Excellent Comic Book from Marvel.
True, at that stage I was massively into the Bill & Ted movies, but this series – written and illustrated by Evan Dorkin – captured the chaotic fun of those movies effortlessly and even managed to add to the story.
There’s been other B&T comics since, but nothing came close to Dorkin’s capturing of the weird and wonderful universe of Wyld Stallyns.
So now for the good news! Dorkin is back writing Bill & Ted, this time for Dark Horse Comics, just in time for the third Bill & Ted movie.
The new series, set for release in September and is a prequel to the third movie.
Along with Dorkin, the new book – hopefully the first of many as Dark Horse have acquired the rights to the franchise – also brings back Bill & Ted co-creator/co-writer Ed Solomon and newcomer artist Roger Langridge.
“My first full-time job in comics was adapting Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey in 1991,” Dorkin said. ”
“Now, in 2020, I’m writing a sequel — that’s also a prequel — with the input and blessing of Ed Solomon, and the artwork of Roger Langridge, one of my all-time favorite cartoonists. It’s been a total blast to work on, and I truly hope the fans have a most excellent time reading it.”
I’m genuinely really excited to read this… tell me I’m not alone!
There’s tension in the band and worry at home. Bill and Ted’s obsession with writing the one song to bring peace to the world is affecting both their playing and their relationships with their families.
The band is losing fans and the future isn’t shaping up as they were led to believe it would. Desperate for a solution, Bill and Ted burst in to announce their great idea to revive the band’s fortunes: A world tour to spread the love – and the rock, and the love of the rock – to the world.
Bill & Ted Are Doomed #1 (of 4) is scheduled to hit shelves September 9th.
Bill & Ted Face the Music is set for release on August 1
4th.
