In 1988 the silver screen was graced with Ron Howard’s fantasy film Willow and ever since the film’s release the fans have been banging at the door requesting a sequel, and although Howard has entertained rumors for a number of years now, there may finally be a light at the end of the tunnel.
From an interview with MTV podcast Happy Sad Confused, Howard confirmed that Solo writer Jon Kasdan is currently in serious talks to bring a Willow sequel to Disney+; this being said, we don’t know it he’ll be writing, directing or producing.
Now, of course, Howard and Kasdan worked together on Solo, so there’s already a little history there, but let’s have a look at some of what was said on the podcast.
“There are some really serious discussions going on with Jon Kasdan, who was one of the writers of Solo, who kept hounding me about Willow the whole time we were shooting and also hounding Kathy Kennedy. We’re in discussions about developing a Willow television show for the Disney+. And I think it’d be a great way to go. In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate, and built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
This will likely put an end to the Willow movies as it plans to be a continuation of the origina, happening now 30+ years later. Warwick Davis was one of the original cast members whose likely set to return for the sequel since his character – Willow – had the role of protecting Elora Danan since she was the only person who could bring down the evil sorceress Queen Bavmorda (sounds a little like Harry Potter or is that just me?).
Stay tuned for more news on this cult classic sequel and like always, stay nerdy folks.
