Agent Venom movie planned now that Tom Hardy is finished with Venom?

Eddie and Venom may currently be having their last dance in cinemas right now but it seems like Sony might already be looking at how to move the franchise forward without Tom Hardy in the lead role(s).

Agent Venom is reportedly in the studio’s sights for the character’s next big-screen iteration, with a whole new cast and take on Venom himself.

If you’ve seen Venom: The Last Dance, you’ll know that SPOILERS it sets up a couple of potential new symbiotes including Juno Temple’s Dr Teddy Paine, who now has a symbiote attached to her and Cristo Fernández’s unnamed barman who, it was hinted at, might be Venom’s next host… we’re not going to get too spoilery here SPOILERS END.

Venom: The Last Dance sets Knull up as a Thanos-type threat for future movies

Now, in the comics, Agent Venom is Spider-man/Peter Parker’s high school bully Flash Thompson who loses his legs as a soldier and then bonds with Venom; the character of Flash currently exists in the MCU, played by actor Tony Revolori and the Venom Symbiote does exist in the MCU after the events of Spider-man: No Way Home, so it’s not impossible that Agent Venom will appear in the MCU – but I don’t think so, I think that symbiote might open the door for Knull to become a big villain in the MCU down the line, leaving Ted Lasso star Fernández to become the Sony comic universe’s Agent Venom.

But before I sign off, there is a couple of other possibilities; Joe Manganiello, who played Flash in the Tobey Maguire and Sam Rami Spider-man movies could come back to the role – after all, he’s still in the Sony universe, or one of them at least, so it’s definitely a possibility but would he fight Maguire’s Spidey? Wouldn’t that be a thing?

In the same way, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man faced off against Chris Zylka’s Flash, so there’s that possibility too.

Look, I enjoyed the Venom trilogy well enough, there’s fun to be had for sure but I really would rather see Venom’s next incarnation, agent or no, be in the MCU, facing off against Spider-man. But, hey, it’s all still in the future and who knows what might happen.

Thoughts?

Kevin Feige seems optimistic that Spider-man and Venom will meet in the movies… at some point
