2016’s The Accountant is a film that I enjoy returning to quite a bit and I always it when I do and, while I haven’t had a chance to get yet, i can’t wait to see the sequel; however, one thing that I have noticed in the trailers is that Anna Kendrick, who played Dana Cummings in the first movie, is noticeable by her absence in The Accountant 2.
Which is disappointing because she was great in the first movie. However, the director of both movies, Gavin O’Connor, reassures fans that plans are in motion to have her back in the planned third movie.
O’Connor, Affleck and Bernthal reunited for Accountant sequel… and soon to be a trilogy?
Speaking to The New York Times, O’Connor reveals that he and screenwriter Bill Dubuque “have had some preliminary conversations… one thing we’ve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves.”
To say Kenrick’s Dana was the love interest in the first movie doesn’t really do her character justice, though it certainly seemed at the end that she could become that, so having her back might be the way to give Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff the happy ending (snort) he deserves.
“We’re hoping she still likes us,” says Affleck about Kendrick, to which O’Connor replies: “Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.”
O’Connor has previously said that Dana was never meant to return in the sequel as it was always planned to explore the relationship of the brothers – Wolff and Braxton, played by Jon Bernthal – however, the third movie might be the full circle moment.
So, more Kendrick in The Accountant 3? Oh, yes, please…
Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems.
When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor, the film stars Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson and J.K. Simmons.
In cinemas on April 25th.
