Well, we kinda knew it was coming, but it’s official… Jason Momoa, the man who was the old DCEU’s Aquaman, has now been cast in the new DCU as Lobo, the super-powered Czarnian intergalactic bounty hunter.
Momoa has made no secret of his love of Lobo, claiming in the past to have every comic the character ever appeared in, saying: “I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role!'”
I mean, look at the graphic above, you can see the vision…
Jason Momoa says he has been told ‘great news’ about the future of DC on film
Back in January, 2023, Momoa wrote on Instagram: “Four years ago, I had the jeep out front… Y’all remember four years ago? I was screaming, wasn’t I? … Screaming when I left Warner Bros. Everybody ready? YAHOO! Four years again. It’s a mystery, baby… I’ve got some really good news. Great news with Warner Bros. Amazing.
“Wish I could tell you, but here it is. Peter, I love you. James, I love you. David. Okay. To the future, to the future.”
This felt like confirmation that Momoa was set to play Lobo, which we all worked out in December, 2022 (here) and now it seems that we were right all along.
Momoa confirmed the news on social media, posting a quote from himself saying that if he was ever called to play Lobo, he’d be there. He simply wrote on the new post: “They Called.”

James Gunn confirmed the news on social media himself (here), writing “Welcome to the #DCU, Jason Momoa” and tagging Momoa’s accounts in the post.
It is expected that Momoa will appear as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow due in cinemas on June 26th, 2026.
House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock will play Supergirl in the movie with Matthias Schoenaerts as villain Krem of the Yellow Hill, the movie will be directed by Craig Gillespie and was written by Ana Nogueira; the movie is set to start filming on January 13th, which is probably why Momoa was announced now, a fortnight before filming begins.
One final thing which is likely to mean nothing at all, but when the news was made official, John Wick and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch took to social media too, tagging Momoa, he wrote: “Let’s do a Lobo feature”.
Does this mean something? Is he just stabbing in the dark because he’d love to do a Lobo movie? At this stage, it’s hard to know, but we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground.
Expect to see Lobo take on Supergirl in 2026, DC fans!
