While the most recent James Bond story with Danel Craig in the lead, had the most definitive ending of any of the franchise’s legacy, it seems that the famous MI5 agent is once again getting ready to put on a new face and return to the fray.
Series producer Barbara Broccoli has revealed that they are now looking at who will play Bond next and it might be a new, different slant.
“It’s a big decision,” she said about who will follow the list of actors in the role, confirming that it will still be a man and “He’ll likely be in his 30s. Whiteness is not a given,” they are also looking at someone who can commit to ‘at least a decade’.
Henry Cavill learns that he was all but cast as James Bond… but for one small thing
Here come the Idris Elba rumours again…
Broccoli’s brother Michael G Wilson said they are already braced for the backlash, no matter who is cast: “Every time we cast a new actor, the films change. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction.
“Every one of these people who took on the role offered something new and different.”
While stars like Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are still among fan favorites for the new role, it’s impossible to say what is going to happen.
However, one thing we can be sure of is that Craig will be returning to the role for a sixth time; when recently asked who he wanted to play the role next, Craig went full-Harrison Ford and said simply: “I don’t care.”
RUMOUR: Tom Hardy is the next James Bond PLUS New poster for No Time To Die
In related news, actress Lashana Lynch, left, has been asked if she’d be up to return as agent Nomi who briefly held the number 007 in Bond’s absence in No Time to Die and the actress seems unsure if it will happen but would be up for it if there was story to tell: “If there’s enough story there that makes sense, then I’m sure audiences will be able to have a really cool experience seeing Nomi again,” she said.
“But I genuinely do not know. It’s left in the air and it’s so intriguing to be in the position whereby I’ve been a part of that world and everyone assumes — or some people assume — that I would have information. I genuinely don’t! Genuinely. But I’m as intrigued as everyone else.”
I genuinely enjoyed Lynch in the last movie and wouldn’t be against seeing more of her but I’d imagine that the new Bond will draw a line under everything before and while the age-old question of whether James Bond is a person or a codename will continue, I think the new story will be a fresh start.
So strap in, Bond fans.
