Word on the nerdsphere is that Star Wars and Marvel star Benicio Del Toro is in talks to join James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel.
With the news that Micheal Rooker has joined the movie then very quickly with the news he hasn’t (here) we may have news that someone else pretty interesting has signed on.
According to the report Del Toro’s character may be the big villain of the movie and is referred to as “The Mayor” and described as an “irascible old warrior who lives for war.”
The mystery role also has Antonio Banderas attached at one point.
Now, given Del Toro’s look and the nod to an old warrior who lives for war, we’re guessing he may be Vandal Savage, the villain who appeared in The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow series and, sadly, was under utilised.
Savage in the comics is over 50,000 years old (an immortal) and played a major role in shaping the world we know around us… a little like Ra’s Al Ghul. He is power hungry and has no problem using wars to get what he wants.
We’re excited about the prospect of a villain of this magnitude appearing in the DC Cinematic universe, though Ra’s is still my favourite Batman and DC villain.
The Squad arrives again in August 2021.
