Bryce Dallas Howard has talked to Dave Filoni about bringing Mace Windu back

“He’s not dead!” Samuel L Jackson told Empire magazine last year and now Bryce Dallas Howard, who is making a name for herself behind the camera on the Star Wars Disney+ shows tends to agree and has even brought it to Star Wars Chief Creative Office Dave Filoni.

For years and years now, Samuel L Jackson has told fans that he knows Mace WIndu is still alive and, not only that, but George Lucas agrees. Back in 2016 the actor was asked if he believes Mace is still alive and the actor showed no hesitation: “Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?”

He also believes his Jedi went into hiding, much like Obi-Wan did between Episodes III and IV.

Samuel L Jackson says we should ‘definitely’ hold out hope for Mace Windu return

But has he any reason for believing this could be part of the ‘official’ Star Wars lore? Well, he said he said it to George and  “George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.’”

Now, in a new interview, below, with the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, Howard revealed that she really wants to work with Jackson again after their time together in Argyll and what she wants to work with him on is a Mace Windu movie.

“Sam Jackson has been incredibly supportive of me and has told me many times that he would act in something that I directed, which is, like, I’m not worthy, basically,” she says.

She then went on that, once Jackson said that, she went right to Dave Filoni to lay her cards on the table: “And then I went straight to Dave Filoni and I was like, ‘So, let’s just talk about Mace Windu and where he is. Can we just talk about this? Because, is he dead? Is he?'”

On the same podcast, back in March 2022, Jackson actually spoke about this interaction with Howard, saying: “The only person I’ve ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard, ’cause I just did a movie with her. And she directs episodes of ‘The Mandalorian,’ so, ‘You think you might be able to hook a brother up? I mean you like me, right?’ She’s like, ‘I love you, you’re amazing!’ So, ‘Put me back in there… Put me in coach, I’m ready!’ You know, I’ll learn to lightsaber left-handed. Come on, hook me up.”

It’s frustrating that Filoni didn’t have an answer – or, well, at least that Howard didn’t reveal – but I have long had the feeling that we’d see Jackson back as Mace Windu at some stage in the Star Wars future and I also can’t help feeling that Boba Fett will be in there too.

Thoughts, guys? I know you have them, and now I want to hear them all…
