We know there has been rumours for a while that ABC may be planning an A-Force series to replace the current Agents of SHIELD when it ends next season, but now it seems that while ABC is considering a female-led series, the A-Force is headed to the big screen.
Maybe.
A new rumour has it that an A-Force movie is in the works at Disney for a big-screen MCU outing and it will be primarily made up of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Tess Thompson’s Valkyrie and the soon to be introduced in Thor: Love and Thunder, Lady Thor played by Natalie Portman and the soon to be added to Disney+ She-Hulk.
And, on top of that, it seems that America Chavez AKA Miss America will be added to the line-up after she too gets an in-development Disney+ series.
With it being the current year, it’s also expected that the movie will have female-only writers and director.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has been toying with the idea of a female led Avengers-type movie for a while now, saying after Black Panther: “Watching the audience at the Black Panther premiere respond to Lupita, Letitia, and certainly Danai in their action sequences … you watch Danai spinning around in that casino, taking out dozens of people, and you go, ‘Of course you can make a whole movie about that!’”
Ant-Man and The Wasp star Evangeline Lilly talked about all the girls together in a single movie too and even has a structure in her mind already: “Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead because she is a general? And she’s the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right, so maybe Captain Marvel would lead.”
Brie Larson herself has even talked about it: “I’m super into an all-female Avengers movie. Yeah, I think that would just be, it would just be cool to see all of them interact together.”
I imagine that, wether this turns out to be on the money or not, Disney/Marvel are almost certainly adding an all-female team to the roster of the MCU. It also means that, if this does pan out, the Disney+ shows will be an integral part fo the MCU… just as integral as the movies themselves. Ballsy.
So long as it’s not agenda-driven and handled well then bring on the ladies!
