Dan Harmon may now be best known as the man behind Rick and Morty but to us, he’ll always be first and foremost, the man who brought us the wonderful Community.
For years now we’ve been hoping that Community’s motto of ‘six seasons and a movie’ would come to be… we have the six seasons, and we’re patiently waiting for the movie.
Now, in a new interview to promote the return of Rick & Morty next month, Harmon has said that the Community movie is in the pipeline but nailing down when is the real challenge.
We’ve heard several times in the past (here) that the cast, including Joel McHale, Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Gillian Jacobs, are all willing to come back, so we’ve been optimistic and it seems that we were right to be.
“I will now say it’s a matter of ‘when.’ I have been so careful about [saying] that,” Harmon says in the interview which you can watch below.
“It would have been accurate three years ago to say ‘it’s a matter of when, not if.’ The wheels have been in motion for that long,” he said.
Harmon reflects on the fact that fans message him daily to see if there’s progress on the movie and he can’t tell them if it’s going to be a year or eight years… and things like that recent pandemic only make it worse.
“How about this for a concrete thing?” he says, “There is an outline for it. There’s a product put together and pitched out in the world. I guess that’s how real it is.”
It’s coming guys, just keep the faith.
