Dave Filoni has (pretty much) confirmed our much-loved theory about Captain Rex in Star Wars: Rebels AND Return of the Jedi

You may recall that way back at the premiere of Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels (season 3 just ended) Dave Filoni, who oversees the series, hinted that Captain Rex may well be in Return of the Jedi.

Wut?

Well, the image above, which I’ve put together for the story, shows Rex as he currently looks in Rebels and behind him is the image of a character glimpsed in Return of the Jedi when the Rebels attack the installation on Endor’s moon.

The character in Jedi is call ‘Gramps’ or ‘Nik Sant’ (because he looks like Santa – geddit?) and for a while it’s been speculated that he could be Rex.

And now, at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, Filoni seems to have confirmed that not only IS that Rex but we may actually see him geared up in that attire in Rebels.

At the Animated Origins panel, Filoni quickly let the audience see Rex’s new look (see the tweet below) and gone is his mis-matched Clone armour, replaced by Rebel attire that looks undeniably like the guy in Jedi: “What’s that? That’s some kind of… don’t pay any attention to that. That shouldn’t even be in this folder!” Filoni said when the slide revealed Rex’s new look.

“Why would he need camouflage? Doesn’t make any sense!”

Obviousy Filoni and the crowd weren’t the only ones in on the joke as Lucasfilm story group executive Pablo Hidalgo, also on stage, said: “Just speculate away, we’re putting it out there.”

Is this confirmation?? Well, we’re taking it as a ‘yes’ because it’s one of our favourite Star Wars theories and we love Rex, so it totally works for us.

It’s all connected; that is the new Star Wars moto, right?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
