David Arquette returns for Scream 7

Ok, the Scream 7 news has just reached peak head-scratching heights as one of the franchise’s favorites – and deadest – is returning.

Yes, Deputy Dewey, played by David Arquette, despite being murdered by Ghostface in Scream V, is back for the latest installment due next February.

The star joins follow dead characters Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley as Stu Macher and Roman Bridger, however, unlike those two, Dewey was not a Ghostface/killer in the series.

Arquette was in the Scream franchise since the first movie in 1996 and was killed off in 2022’s fifth movie, but it seems that death is not the end in this series after all…

Ok, look, I don’t think Scream is about to see a mass resurrection of the dead as it’s traditionally one of the more ‘realistic’ horror series, so I’m putting my money on a de-aged flashback scene or perhaps the AI rumours are true and we could see the killer this time out pretending to be dead people in Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) past.

Either way, I{m excited to see what Scream 7 is cooking… and, for the record, I DO think there’s a chance Lillard’s Stu Macher is back for real this time out, but that’s a longer story.

Arquette also joins returning stars Courtenay Cox, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, alongside newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mark Consuelos and Ethan Embry.

The movie is co-written and directed by Scream creator Kevin Williamson.

Scream 7 slashes its way onto the screen on February 27th, 2026.
