Ah, crap.
It looks like the sequel to World War Z, which was set to be directed by David Fincher, is no longer happening.
Word is that the problem was that a budget couldn’t be reached for the movie.
The movie was going to have Brad Pitt return and it would have been directed by Fincher who previously made Fight Club and Seven with him.
“Sources could not confirm what exactly the budget concerns were, other than the studio becoming more and more uncomfortable with where it was headed. The previous film had hit similar production budget issues with Damon Lindelof famously coming on at the last minute to rewrite the third act while the budget continued to inflate. That film was able to survive the production issues and go on to gross $540 million worldwide, but even though that worked out, the studio did not want to see a similar situation on the sequel.”
It seems that the movie could still happen but for now it’s dead in the water.
Despite being a bit of a disaster all-round, I actually really enjoyed the first World War Z and was looking forward to seeing what Fincher could bring to a world over run by vampires.
But for now, it’s not on the cards any more.
Bummer.
