Details emerge on who Daniel Craig was to play in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness

So, it seems we have some cool details about the now in cinemas Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and a member of the Illuminati who was going to be very different than what we got.

We knew that shortly before release, Multiverse of Madness went through some reshoots and additional footage which reportedly added new characters into the movie due to filming at the height of that damned virus making filing awkward for some of the movie’s stars.

We have learned that these reshoots were primarily based around The Illuminatti, notably the characters of Reed Richards, played by John Krasinski, Professor Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart and Black Bolt, played by Anson Mount.

All these actors were likely filmed separately and inserted digitally, which is seemingly confirmed by a new video of Scarlet Witch star Elizabeth Olsen confirming she has never met Krasinski and wouldn’t know him if she met him, indeed she seemed shocked when she learned they were in a movie together (here).

Will Krasinski’s Reed Richards be in the MCU again?

But a new rumour has suggested that Richards, right, was originally meant to be played by James Bond star, Daniel Craig before he couldn’t make it and was replaced by Krasinski; however, it seems that this is not exactly true as Craig was cast but was to play Thor’s half-brother, Balder the Brave, left.

Sadly, Craig was unable to make to it to filming and it meant the Illuminati was missing a member… sharp-eyed fans will have noticed that in the movie there’s an empty chair in the group’s line-up and while many assumed it was Doctor Strange’s, it may actually have been Baldor’s.

So, yes, Craig was meant to be Krasinski’s replacement but he wasn’t Richards.

Personally, I love Krasinski as Richards and, while Craig would have been fun in the movie, I would have preferred what we got, had we had to choose one or the other.

A further rumour states that Baldor, in the showdown between Scarlet Witch and the Illuminatti was to have been decapitated, which doesn’t surprise us at all, given what all went down in that fight in the movie.

Anyway, let’s hear all your thoughts on Craig, Krasinski and the rest of the Illuminati in the movie.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
