Is Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino set to become one of the world’s greatest Nerdy icons? Well, duh.
While Glover wears many masks for many people, I first noticed him as Troy in Community and when he was then cast as Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story, he excelled in a role I thought only Billy Dee Williams could play and, while Solo was a flop, fans were excited to hear back in 202o (here), that Glover’s Lando was getting his own Disney+ series. But, alas, aside from Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy confirming at Star Wars Celebration Euroe earlier this year that that series was still happening (here), we heard very little.
Until now.
It looks like not only is Glover returning to the iconic gig but he and his brother Stephen Glover are set to pen the series too.
The brothers will replace Haunted Mansion writer Justin Simien who seemed to be screwed over by Disney because he thought he was still writing it up until Disney revealed he wasn’t, saying before the news: “I am attached, I think, but I don’t really know. (Laughs.) The last thing I was told was that they loved it but needed to put a pin in it until they could figure out everybody’s availability. I haven’t investigated further, but I’m not an idiot.
“It seems like I develop things with these companies and they just never happen for reasons unknown.”

Nothing else is known about the Lando series for now, but never fear, we’ll still be getting plenty of Glover.
It has also been revealed in the Let’s Talk Off Camera Podcast that Glover will be returning as Troy for the Community Movie after his return was in some doubt. On the show, fellow Community star Joel McHale said: “We’re shooting it next summer.
“Well, [Donald Glover’s] coming back, and that’s really important. The fact that we even got Donald to do it… that was the big piece.
“But, I think everyone’s coming back. So far, we’re pretty good, and I think that will happen. If not, then, you know, Donald will be there. See? It’ll just be Donald. It’ll just be an episode of Atlanta.”
Dan Harmon says everyone should be back for the Community movie and that includes Donald Glover!
As well as this, Glover’s recent appearance as The Prowler in Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse, below, could be confirming that we will be seeing him in the MCU soon too – Glover’s appearance in Spider-man pajamas in an episode of Community caused fans back in the day to ask for him to be cast as a future Peter Parker but instead it lead to the creation of Miles Morales! Glover was then a fan favorite to play the hero in live-action but it never happened, although it does seem likely that we will now see him as Miles’ greatest enemy… and that’s pretty cool!

On top of this, the first teaser has been released for the long in production Mr & Mrs Smith series starring Glover and Maya Erskine in the roles made famous by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the hit 2005 movie. Mrs Smith was originally meant to be played by Pheobe Waller-Bridge back in 2021 (here) but that fell through.
While the teaser shows us very little, the tone is clear and the two stars look like they’re having a ball.

So, Lando, Community, Prowler and Mr & Mrs Smith… Glover is about to rule the nerd sphere.
