Downey Jnr would ‘happily’ return to the MCU as Tony Stark/Iron Man

Ok, so theres’ no denying that the MCU has been on a downward spiral since Avengers: Endgame in 2019 – yes, there have been a few highlights, I know – and more specifically, it’s been in decline since Robert Dwoney Jnr AKA Tony Stark/Iron Man died on screen.

No sooner was Stark dead in the MCU than fans wanted him back, hoping that the Multiverse storyline we’re now deep into might be able to bring him back or at least a version of him, but Downey Jnr himself said that wouldn’t happen in 2020, declaring: “As far as I’m concerned I hung up my guns and I’m good to let it go.”

Indeed Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige himself drew a line under it last year, saying: “we would never want to magically undo it [his death] any way.”

However, it seems that all that might have changed as Downey Jnr, just after an Oscar win for Oppenheimer, has said he’d be happy to come back, saying: “Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

Hmmmmmmmmm…

Adding to this, Downey Jnr’s Marvel co-star Gwyneth Paltrow has said that he was fully the character of Stark, saying Downey would tell director Jon Favreau “I’m not saying these f#@king lines” and Favreau and Downey would then improvise on set.

Never bet against Feige, huh? Does that mean he has talked to him? Seems like an odd thing to say and I’m just gonna call it, I think with a Secret Wars movie in the planning stage we’ll see him back in some form or other and very soon because, if nothing else, it would be a win for Marvel that they might just need.

As for the immediate future, the next MCU movie on the horizon is Deadpool & Wolverine this July.

Josh Brolin says he’s heard Thanos is returning to the MCU… but without Robert Downey Jnr’s Iron Man

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
