It looks like Alien: Romulus has re-invigorated the Alien franchise with reviews and box-office performance both delivering in the best ways imaginable.
Now 20th Century Studios Boss Steve Asbell has teased that they are talking to director Fede Alvarez to come back and tell more of the story he started in Romulus: “We’re working on a sequel idea now,” he says.
“We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on.
“The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, ‘Wow, where do people want to see them go next?’ We know there’s going to be aliens.
“We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.”
As well as Romulus, next year we’re getting Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth TV series which he describes as more than a survival story: “It delivers everything that a great Alien movie delivers; those movies are survival stories, that’s great for two hours but if you want to make 30+ hours of it, there’s gotta be a larger dramatic story.”
With talent like Hawley and Alvarez heading up the Alien franchise on the big and small screens, the franchise in in very safe hands, indeed.
Oh, and if you like participating in the horror, the Alien: Isolation sequel has also been confirmed as being in development ten years after the original proved that in your house, the whole family can hear you scream.
Creative director Al Hope recently conformed the news and released a statement (below): “I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.”
