It’s been a long time coming but it seems we’re finally getting the standalone Hulk movie we’ve wanted (the Edward Norton movie is almost 17 years old) and not only that but it’s going to be a fan favourite.
Due to ownership and licensing gobbledygook, the character of the Hulk/Bruce Banner was only ever really able to show up in others’ movies, hence his appearance in Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, etc. But now it seems the highly anticipated World War Hulk is planned, and not only that, it might be coming pretty soon.
Fifteen years later, The Incredible Hulk’s Liv Tyler returns to the MCU as Betty Ross
A new report on Production Weekly has World War Hulk filming this year although the guys at World of Reel are reporting that while it’s being discussed, it’s not definite just yet, though they say the plan is:
“Mark Ruffalo is set to come back in the titular role, and his character will have a very busy year as this coming February’s “Captain America: Brave New World” will set up “World War Hulk” for him, and a few months later, “Thunderbolts” will be the “connecting branch” for the character’s first solo MCU movie.”
RUMOUR: Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man set for MCU’s Secret Wars
The movie would likely see the MCU’s version of The Illuminati making their appearance – we met an alternate version of them in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness – and banishing Hulk after he goes crazy after the death of his wife… might that be why we’re seeing Betty Ross return in Captain America: New World Order?
However, as interesting as this all sounds, one of the most interesting rumours I’ve heard is that MCU boss Kevin Feige has been meeting with directors for the project and one he’s spoken to is George Miller, the man who has directed all the Mad Max movies including, most recently, Furiosa.
Word is Miller is also keen to direct Thor 5 (thankfully Waititi is gone) which makes sense as Chris Hemsworth co-starred in Furiosa and was, frankly, brilliant.
Thor: Ragnarok borrowed a lot of elements from World War Hulk, so there’s a good chance elements from the comic will be radically changed but it’s the MCU and that’s par for the course, really. all that said, Miller directing Hulk or Thor would be something the fans should be excited about… let’s hope it happens. And then, maybe, we’ll get the next Mad Max movie.
Thoughts?
Marvel’s Blade movie is stalled indefinitely… can we just bring back Wesley Snipes? Please?!
