The new Universal reboot of The Mummy franchise may have possibly found the person suitable to play The Mummy as apparently Sofia Boutella, Gazelle in ‘Kingsman: the Secret Service,’ is in talks for the role.

It seems that the Mummy is going to be part of a shared film Universe, remember we reported Tom Cruise was in talks for a role, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This has recently become popular in the film industry, with DC and Star Wars also expanding their universes. The Mummy, will be joined by Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man and Bride of Frankenstein, all part of the monster universe.

What is different from the previous Mummy films is that the mummy has always been played by a male actor, with female Mummys turning up every now and then. This is therefore a welcome change given that most of the monster cast will have to be played by male actors.

Boutella gained significant attention from her role as Gazelle. She is now got a role in the new Star Trek Beyond film.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts, ‘The Mummy’ will be release on March 24, 2017
