Idris Elba confirms he’s voicing Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog sequel

Look, I make no apologies for enjoying the Sonic the Hedgehog movie more than I should have and, yes, I’m looking forward (I had written ‘excited’ but that’s a bit far) to the sequel.

Fans of the site will recall the recently we had set images of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles the Echida revealed a few months back (here) and now we can reveal that Idris Elba, the man, the myth, the legend himself, will be voicing Knuckles in the movie.

The star took to social media (below) to break the news, posting an image of Knuckles’ arm with the words ‘knock, knock’.

As I was creating the art above, my son walked past and said “Wait, is Idris Elba voicing Knuckles in Sonic 2?” and when I said he was, my son replied “Stunning!” and laughed… that’s a good stunning, by the way.

It’ll be a long shot from the sort of roles we know and love Elba for, but seeing that character with that voice? That will be great.

The movie will also see the return of  Tika Sumpter and James Marsden as Maddie Wachowski and Tom Wachowski respectively, Jim Carrey as Dr Robotnik and Ben Schwartz as Sonic.

Should be fun.

Thoughts?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opens on April 8th, 2022
