Is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson set to be SHAZAM!? “All will be revealed soon,” he says…

July 21st, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

So…this is interesting. Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has long been rumored to be in talks with DC about playing a character for them. Some have wondered if he would be John Stewart of the Green Lantern Corps (this was fueled by Johnson himself on Twitter), others believe his look makes him a perfect candidate to be Black Adam (which he also commented on…. What does the man himself have to say? Well…

In an interview with TotalFilm, the movie star said: “There’s a character out there that we’re going to announce soon” he revealed. “He has the power of Superman. And it’s not the Green Lantern by the way. Believe me – Jon Stewart – he is a character who I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so now we’ve gone in a slightly different direction. But this character has the power of Superman. He can throw down.”

Not sure who he is yet? Well how about this little tidbit he added with a smile? “Just say the word. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Hmm….that could mean he is meant to play SHAZAM!, or…he could indeed be playing Black Adam, who also used the name of the wizard to transform. Both are still up in the air, but if “soon” means San Diego Comic-Con we may have our answer sooner rather than later.

The question now is will the role be for a movie or a TV show? A movie has been confirmed to be in development, but that doesn’t mean it’ll go through just yet. It’s been “slated” to come out after Dawn of Justice releases in 2016. But again, it’s not confirmed.

Or maybe…just maybe…it’ll be another show to be added to DC’s growing TV presence. As a guy who really wants a SHAZAM! TV series (seriously, I do. Go to Twitter and search for #ShazamTVSeries, you’ll see how much I want it) I think The Rock could totally do a TV series. Time will tell. Regardless though, whether it’s SHAZAM! or Black Adam, anyone who is a fan of these character should be really excited.
