Man, James Gunn, writer and director of next year’s highly anticipated Superman, just shared a gorgeous image of David Corenswet’s Superman sitting on the moon looking at earth with Krypto.
In all the live-action incarnations of Superman, we have yet to see anything like this and it has warmed all our hearts here are FTN HQ.
Taking to social media, Gun revealed that his take on Krypto, the Kryptonian dog, is taken from a very personal place: “Krypto arrives on screens in Superman this summer. Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman.
“Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, “Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life.
“What better time to debut the not-so-good-good-boy Krypto than #AdoptAShelterDog month. Btw, Ozu today, is, fairly often, a very good boy. #Superman”
FIRST LOOK: Full suit reveal for David Corenswet as Superman
We’re all fans of Superman here and we even all love Man of Steel but this is a vision of hope that Superman hasn’t been for a while on the big screen and now, more than ever, it’s something we need in our lives.
Gunn’s DCU will kick off in full with the new Superman but the Man of Steel will be coming into a world already fully populated with heroes, villains, aliens and everything in between with the likes of Milly Alcock already cast as Supergirl, joining others such as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Xolo Maridueña’s Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl to name but a few.
The DCU kicks off with Creature Commandos animated series later this year, with Superman being the first bigscreen entry in July 2025.
