Thanks to co-writer and director James Wan, we now have the official title for the Aquaman sequel.
On Instagram last night, Wan wrote “the tide is rising” with a screenshot revealing the movie will be called Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
With the first movie being such a big hit for Warner Brothers, it’s no surprise that the sequel is coming and we can’t wait because, while flawed, the first movie was a lot of fun.
In a recent interview star Jason Momoa revealed that he helped write this new installment in the DCEU: “I loved [Aquaman] so much that I, you know, participated in the writing of [the sequel]; and so we did the first treatment and then James and our original writer David [Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick] finished it off and, you know, all of our hearts are in it.”
The movie will see Momoa return as Arthur Curry, the Aquaman, with fellow returning stars Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Dolph Lundgren. Game of Thrones’ Euron Greyjoy star Pilou Asbæk has been added to the cast in an unconfirmed role.
Wan will once again be directing.
Let us know what you think the Lost Kingdom is a nod to and if, like us, you’re loving the pure comicbook feel of the title.
Filming is set to begin in Hawaii next month with the release date set for December 16th, 2022 .
