We’ve known for a while that a new R-rated Spawn movie was coming from Blumhouse pictures and will have creator Todd McFarlane but now we have some very exciting news about who might be playing the comic book anti-hero.
It seems that back in 2013 when rumours of a new big screen adaptation of the movie were floating around actor Jamie Foxx wanted in for the role but sadly, obviously, it never happened.
However….
It seems that for the new outing, Jamie Foxx has been offered the role he once wanted so badly.
Does it mean he’s taken it? Nope, not yet… but we’re totally behind Foxx playing Al Simmons/Spawn.
McFarlane previously revealed that the movie’s main character won’t be Spawn: “There’s two big roles in the script. There’s obviously sort of Spawn himself, although in a weird way it’s not the biggest role, and then there’s the cop. The cop is this character Twitch who’s been there since issue #1. Twitch is the role in this one, and I sort of refer to him as my sheriff Brody, who is the sheriff in the Jaws movie. Although it was called Jaws, Jaws didn’t really talk a lot in his movie, right? He just kind of showed up at the opportune time to make the movie worthwhile.”
In the comics Spawn was sent to hell and then employed by the devil to return stray souls to hell however when he got out, Simmons decided to become an unlikely force for good and he worked alongside Twitch to track down bad guys… think a more hardcore Batman and Gordon.
