Jaoquin Phoenix discusses potential Joker sequel

While we’re all sitting here trying to work out just how it’s been two years since Todd Phillips’ iconic Joker came out, it seems we have some news on the sequel… or potential sequel direct from star Jaoquin Phoenix.

The movie, which redefined how we see comic book movies and treated the subject matter in a way that’s more Taxi Driver than DCEU, has left an indelible mark on the comic book movie landscape and led to many rumours of sequels, spin-offs and more (here) but, as off yet, nothing has been confirmed.

However, Phoenix has spoken to The Playlist about the character of Joker/Arthur Fleck and what the future could hold for him.

When asked if a sequel was happening, the star replied “I dunno,” before elaborating.

“You know, this [Joker] is an interesting guy. There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know.”

Now, it’s not unusual for a star to be coy even if they know something about a movie, and that could be the case here… his implication that there are ways to develop the character would seem to imply such developments have at least been discussed.

But will they happen? Well, we’d be more than willing to watch another Joker movie… but let’s just hold out and see what happens.

Thoughts?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
