More great news – if somewhat expected – as JK Simmons confirms that he is contacted to return to the MCU/Sony Spider-man universe as JJ Jameson.
The actor, in a new interview (below), – who first played the angry, Spider-man hating editor of The Daily Bugle in Sam Raimi’s Spider-man trilogy – returned much to the joy of fans to the role in Spider-man: Far From Home and now, as expected, he’s hopefully set to do it all again.
In the interview the star discusses having to go through the usual casting rigmarole despite having worked with Raimi in the past: “The producers and the people at Sony, they needed to be convinced, because obviously, there were a lot of much more high-profile actors that they had in mind that would help with the box office… It was very nerve-wracking.”
But as for his return to the role, now part of the MCU, Simmons said: “I don’t know if I would use the word expect [me to return].”
He explains that he has signed on for two more movies after Spider-man: Far From Home, but it’s up to the studio if they decide to use him again: “It’s great to have the opportunity, as these things evolve, to be one of the holdovers from the previous version.”
Look, it would be insane for Sony/Marvel to NOT use Simmons because not only is he just a wonderful, wonderful person AND actor, but he’s arguably the best bit of comic book casting of all-time (come at me, bro).
Just, please, give him back the iconic haircut next time.
What say you all? Would you like to see JJ Jameson back and hassling Spider-man? Let me know your thoughts.
