Can it be? Dare we dream? Is Karl Urban finally set to bring Joe Dredd back to our screens?
Urban played Judge Dredd in 2012’s (13 years ago!?!? What?!) Dredd and played him to perfection in a movie that hit almost every note for fans of the comic and character, however, due to terrible marketing and an R-rating, it all but tanked at the cinema.
But the fans never let it go, constantly talking online and trying to get more of the character on screen. Heck, Urban himself is a massive Dredd fan and has made it clear he’d be back in a heartbeat, if the material was right.
And it nearly happened.

Going back to 2017, a Mega-City One series focused on Judges almost happened and Urban confirmed he was in talks to come back as Dredd, saying at the time: “I am in discussions with them about that. I told them that if they write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function, I will be there. I would love to.”
But, alas, it never happened and, although briefly mentioned as still possibly happening in 202o again, the Mega-City One series died away before it could get a chance to grace our screens or bring back Dredd.
However, now a new rumour has emerged from the darkness that, with The Boys finally coming to an end at Amazon, the streamer wants to keep star Karl Urban on the books and Dredd just might be the ticket.
The Tachyon Pulse YouTube channel, which has a bit of a respectable track record with scoops and news, is reporting that Amazon want to keep the who Boys team onboard and to give them a Judge Dredd series as they feel that Urban’s Butcher was the reason The Boys was so popular.
“I’m hearing that conversations have already started about reigniting some sort of Judge Dredd project starring Karl Urban — one that will again be very true to the comic books, but will go a lot further than they were able to with the Dredd movie, which was limited by budget,” the Youtuber reports.

“It’s further claimed they are already looking for a writer, and possibly that it sounds like Karl Urban will be on board as a producer (my guess), or at the very least, be closely involved to make sure things stay on track.
“Karl Urban would be given virtually free rein to do what he wants with this, under the umbrella of The Boys production team. I’m hearing this has gone as far as conversations and potentially even looking at getting a writer to put together a script. I don’t think it’s gone any further than that — we’re talking very, very early days here.”
He believes that, should it be true, the news will not be made official until The Boys ends sometime next year.
Look, I have no way of knowing if this is legit, but given the amount or effort expended over the years to get a Dredd sequel or series, it makes sense that there are still things happening behind the curtain, and, in all honesty, regarding Urban being over a decade older? I reckon that would only make his Judge Dredd even more accurate to the comics.
So, is this real? Unknown. Could it be real? Absolutely.
