Well, in one of the most ‘perfect bit of castng’ turns ever, it seems that Nerd god Karl Urban is set to appear in the Mortal Kombat sequel and if it happens, it’s perfect.
Yes, Urban, he of The Boys, Dredd, Chronicles of Riddick, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings and Marvel fame, is in talks to play… Johnny Cage.
Admit it, that’s damned perfect!
The sequel to 2021’s very flawed but very fun Mortal Kombat will see the return of Simon McQuoid in the director’s chair with Moon Knight and Umbrella Academy’s Jeremy Slater on writing duties and will pick up from the post credits teaser in the first movie that pretty much said Cage was set to debut in the second installment.
Cage in the games is a Hollywood action hero who is chosen to defend the Earth Realm against the forces of darkness in, well, Mortal Kombat. He’s a pretty big character in the story who is as dangerous as he is cocky and arrogant and, given Urban’s turn in The Boys, this is a role he might just be born for.

But then, Urban seems to be born for any and every role, doesn’t he?
Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica MacNamee as Sonya Blade and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion are all expected to return for Mortal Kombat II.
The first movie managed just the right amount of story in among the madness and even got away with some pretty gruesome moments that were not even dreamed of when the first two Mortal Kombat movies were made in the 90s but were true to the games’ legacy.
Anyways, there’s no date set for release yet but we’ll keep you all posted.
