Keanu Reeves gives update on John Wick return

We here at FTN Towers make no secret of our adoration not just of John Wick but of Keanu Reeves himself and as such, we want him to play John Wick a million times but we know, especially after the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4, that that cannot be… but this new update still makes us feel a pang of sadness.

John Wick co-creator and overseer, Chad Stahelski recently hinted that John Wick 5 – which we’re assured is in development – would likely be more of a prequel or side-story, saying:  “It would not be part of that [John Wick: Chapter 4] storyline. It would not be what you would think it is. As far as [John Wick: Chapter 4], we’ve peaked. At least, I have. That’s my apex. We ended it. It’s a complete story. I watch it now, and I feel very happy about it, but we wouldn’t try to outdo it. We wouldn’t try to add on to that. It’d have to be a completely different storyline”.

This means that Wick’s ending in the fourth movie is, thankfully, the true end of the story, but there’s always ways to further explore the character on screen (an anime-style prequel movie is also indevelopment) just as the upcoming Ballerina movie will by having Reeves return as Wick since the story takes place between the third and fourth John Wick movies.

However, Reeves himself has cast doubt on more Wick appearances, hinting that perhaps his age has finally caught up with him (he’s 60!).

In a recent interview for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in which Reeves voices Shadow the Hedgehog, the star was asked about returning as Wick, to which he replied: “You can never say never. My knees right now are saying ‘I can’t do another John Wick‘. So my heart does but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

Of course, there’s a million ways we could see Wick return with stand-ins, CGI etc, but one of the things that makes John Wick so, well, authentic, is that at all times, you can see Reeves in there, doing the work and getting his hands dirty, so the thought of him not doing that or, even worse, making more if he really doesn’t want to or his health is suffering, is unbearable to we, the fans.

All this said, I can see a time where we have John Wick animated shows and movies and/or games with Reeves lending his voice to them, giving the character that authentic feel; yeah, I imagine that’s the future of Wick himself but, with numerous spin-offs in development, the world of John Wick has a bright future ahead, no matter what happens with John Wick himself.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
