Kevin Feige talks female superhero movies in the Marvel movie-verse

One of the big questions that a lot of people are still asking is ‘when are we going to get a Marvel movie about a female character?’… seriously though, it’s not as if there’s not plenty to choose from – especially now that Thor has become a lady too.

Well, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has chatted to Screencrush about just that: “We’re not going to be swayed by the backlash. We’re going to keep bringing the movies out the way we envision it and the way we believe in it — and that includes diversity in all of the active films. The great thing for us is the comics have been conscious of that through the decades and have been rather pioneering in that over the years.”

On the recent change in the comics of Thor (see above) and now Falcon becoming Captain America, Feige was asked if that might ever impact on the movies: “Well, look, listen, as you know, that’s happened before in the comics. It’s getting a lot of attention because they’ve just done it, but both of those things have happened in the past. So, it’s always that’s part of the fun. There’s always that chance to surprise people or to switch up — a number of people have worn the Cap’ costume. A number of people have lifted Mjölnir. So, that’s all fodder for future storytelling.”

So, it looks like Marvel have a plan and no amount of fan complaining will knock them off course… but we can’t help but feel there’s a strong female on the way very, very soon.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
