Before I begin, I’d just like to make it clear I really, really like Kevin Hart.
The guy is funny, he’s smart, he has a great outlook and life (seriously, check out his interview with Joe Rogan here) but I’ve just heard the worst idea in the history of ideas. Which, I guess, is always.
Hart and Paramount are working on remaking Scrooged and are currently looking for a writer and Hart is expected to star too.
Yes, 1988 Christmas classic Scrooged… one of Bill Murray’s most iconic roles and directed by the legendary Richard Donner.
And Hart is planning on remaking it.
Nothing on this earth could ever replace or even stand up to Murray’s iconic portrayal of Frank Cross, the Television boss at IBC, the man who would staple reindeer horns on a mouse for ratings… nor cold anything recapture the feel good ending of that movie that, no matter how many times I watch (at least once every Christmas) gets me right in the feels.
A movie that almost – not quite, but almost – outdoes Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol, on which it’s based needs no remake; it’s been done. Perfectly. So why tamper?
Look, Kevin, if you read this, don’t do this, sir. Make a Christmas movie, make a different version of A Christmas Carol but step away from this classic… it just can’t be done again.
But hey, what do I know?
