Looks like the Gotham City Sirens movie is back in development at Warners/DC

Ever since it was revealed in 2017 that Suicide Squad’s David Ayer was set to direct a Gotham City Sirens movie before DC/Warners panicked over the Zack Snyder DC Universe (here) and pulled the plug, we’ve heard rumours that Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn may yet get their moment in the sun together.

Indeed, it seemed that, had the Birds of Prey movie been a success, it was a sure bet… however, it was a flop and, once again the idea died.

However, James Gunn’s Suicide Squad, despite not doing well at the box office, seems to have fired the idea up once again with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn being a fan favourite once again and now, with a HBO Max Black Canary series (here) and a Huntress series (here) in development along with Supergirl appearing in The Flash (here) and HBO also developing a Batgirl movie (here), the future at DC seems to be female, indeed.

And that’s all great as long as the content holds up and, while I didn’t like BoP, I loved Canary and Huntress, so I’m a big fan of having them back and I loved The Suicide Squad, so if DC can stay between the rails, then count me in.

And now, it seems that Gotham City Sirens, after four years of on again/off again, is back in development.

It seems that, wisely, Warners/DC want to keep Robbie – who is very keen on a Sirens movie – on as Harley Quinn and they seem to think that putting her with the other two bad-ass DC ladies, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, may just be the way to do it and who are we to disagree?

It seems that the movie “will largely follow a heist-based format, with the trio attempting to steal something from Talia Al Ghul”.

The report also states that, while no-one has yet been cast as Poison Ivy, an actress like Free Guy’s Jodie Comer is being sought, if not that star herself.

Catwoman will not be played by The Batman’s Zoe Kravitz as this movie is most definitely set in the main DCEU originally kicked off by Man of Steel.

Personally, I’m excited to see who plays Talia Al Ghul and if there’s a Talia then there’s most certainly a Ra’s Al Ghul out there in the DCEU somewhere.

This could be a very exciting project and I can’t wait to hear more about it.
