Is Robert Pattinson’s Batman set to join James Gunn’s DCU

Could there be big news coming on the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU or rather, more specifically, on the DCU’s Batman?

Ok, so here’s the thing… there’s a lot of rumours and rumblings that Robert Pattinson’s Batman, who we’ve seen in The Batman so far – he didn’t appear in The Penguin series but his presence was definitely felt – and who existed in a world solely consisting of Batman and his gallery of villains, might be set to join the DCU as its Batman, joining David Corenswet’s Superman, Nathan Filion’s Guy Gardner, Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and many others.

But this wasn’t to be the case, with Gunn recently saying that Pattinson’s Batman and the world he inhabits from Matt Reeves, would be a standalone thing and not part of the big universe, although he did admit he’d considered it: “I’ve contemplated it, yeah. I contemplate everything. I talk about everything… I’d be an idiot not to think of how can this go or how can this go, but I’m committed to both telling stories in the DCU and telling Elseworlds stories.”

But why would this have changed?

We heard a few weeks back that Reeves had finished the script for The Batman II and was turning it in, yet Gunn has said, as the overseer of all things DC at Warners, that the script isn’t done yet… could the conflict of opinion be because of the fact that they’re looking to get Pattinson in the DCU?

Well, having Pattinson join the bigger universe would make sense rather then having two different Batmen competing for box office but a bigger reason might be that Reeves himself has become a big part of the DCU, concentrating on it now as much as he was on his own little corner of it that was Gotham City.

As of now, this is all speculative, despite the rumours from some folks in the know, but honestly, with the Superman trailer hitting early next week, it wouldn’t surprise me if there wasn’t some sort of announcement during the press event on [tomorrow] Monday. Could we have our DCU Batman by Christmas… I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.

Thoughts? Let me hear them.
