Best news of the night, you say? No problem, I got this one!
M Night Shyamalan has confirmed he’s making the sequel to Unbreakable next!
If you know Shyamalan’s work, you’ll know that he was arguably never better than his first three movies, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs.
Unbreakable was a movie before its time, turning the superhero genre on its head in a way modern movies can only dream of. It starred David Dunn (Bruce Willis) as a man who, despite being in numerous deadly events, was unscathed. When he meets comic store owner Ejiah (Samuel L Jackson) he starts to get a better idea of who – or what – he really is.
If you haven’t seen it, we recommend you do so immediately.
Anyway, Shyamalan has chatted to Uproxx about his new movie Split, starring James McAvoy, and was asked if he planned on making the sequel to Unbreakable MINOR SPOILERS as Split seems to be set in the same universe MINOR SPOILERS END to which he replied: “I do intend on making a final Unbreakable movie and I’m intending on doing it next.”
Shyamalan has chatted several times about wanting to return to the universe he created in 2000 – here’s him talking about it two years ago – however after the failure of The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth it started to look as if it was unlikely to happen.
But…
He’s returned (almost) to his former form with The Visit and Split, so it looks like maybe he’s got some of that trust back.
We would love to see Willis and Jackson back for an Unbreakable sequel;. it’s a universe we REALLY want to see more of.
What about you? Have you faith in Shyamalan again? Let us know…
