A few days ago we confirmed that Loki and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron was already writing the Star Wars movie set to be produced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige (here).
At the time, we reported how Waldron had said that he was excited to be writing it – even though it’s still a few years away – and how, to him, Star Wars was always about Han, Luke and Leia running around together, saving the galaxy: “Star Wars, at its best, is a story about family. Han, Luke, and Leia were a family; you love seeing them together, and you hated it when they were split apart. It’s great characters. That’s nothing new. I am not going to blow anybody’s mind with that headline — but that’s my biggest takeaway.”
So, this had us quietly thinking that perhaps his Star Wars project would be something set in the timeline of the original movies, with the flavor of George Lucas’ original saga, however, in a new interview, he has confirmed that his movie is not tied to any other Star Wars adventure.
“We’re finally into it in earnest,” he says.
“I mean, I’m writing away. It’s a lot of fun. I’m enjoying having the freedom on that, to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything
“It maybe has a little bit less of a — it just doesn’t have a bunch of TV shows and movies that you’re servicing on top of it – the way I did with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So it’s nice. It feels like a different exercise.”
Hmmmmmmmm…
Could this mean his movie will be set in an unchartered time/period in the Star Wars galaxy? Wouldn’t that be fun? While we have The Mandalorian on TV, we have never seen a bigscreen Star Wars adventure cut itself free and tell a story unique to itself but it seems Feige’s movie will be just that.
Thoughts?
