Captain Marvel’s a bit of an odd one, really. There’s characters from both DC and, would you believe it, Marvel bearing the name, with films for both coming up. At least Warner Bros are retitling theirs to avoid confusion.
Which brings us to Shazam! Teenager Billy Batson is given the power to transform into a fully-grown Superman-like Zachary Levi by uttering his Secret Magic Word. Fresh off the Warner Bros panel at San Diego, here’s the first official trailer:
At first this seemed a bit, well, awful if I’m honest. The whole thing came across as a bit po-faced. And then Zac Levi starts doing his Chuck thing, only with superpowers. Dare I say it, Warners are seemingly producing some great stuff at the moment. Please, don’t suck.
Also, no word if Billy will start calling himself Captain Marvel or not…
Shazam! is slated for release on 5 April 2019.
