New Ghostbusters: Afterlife posters arrive as new movie looks set to resolve one of franchise’s biggest mysteries

Ahead of the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife on November 19th, we have two very cool new posters, above and below, featuring the full cast and crew and it’s very exciting that we know that we’re definitely only weeks away from finally seeing the third movie in the Ghostbusters franchise.

However, it’s not just the posters that have us excited, but rather the news that the movie WILL address one of the biggest questions on fans’ minds since we saw the first trailer for the movie waaaaaay back in December 2019 (here)… is the Ecto-1 we see in this movie the same car we saw in both previous movies and, more specifically, is it the Ecto-1A from Ghostbusters II?

Fans noticed that the car in this movie is pretty much the same car from the first movie (yes, we know about the ladder etc) and is not at all like the heavily modified Ecto-1A we saw in the sequel, leading the fandom to wonder if the cars from the first two movies were the same (in-universe car) or were different vehicles altogether. The official Ghostbusters II novelisation hinted that they are not the same car and it seems this movie will, indeed, address this.

Posting the new poster on his Instagram account, Afterlife cinematographer Eric Steelberg was asked by a fan: “Do you know why is not the ECTO 1A ?” – asking why the car in the new movie is not how we last saw it in GBII, to which Steelberg replied: “You’ll find out Nov 19”.

So, this means the movie will explain what happened regarding the famous car. Ever since we saw Ray’s Occult Book Shop in the second trailer for Afterlife (here) that meant that Ghostbusters II is definitely canon and the car enigma was needing to be explained.

Personally, I think we’re going to find out that Egon had the original car at his farm – the one we’ve seen in Afterlife so far -and Ray kept the Ecto-1A and I reckon there’s a very good chance we’ll see the original team pull up in the 1A in the movie.

SPOILER: We’ve heard rumours that the Ecto-1 gets destroyed in the movie and, while this will be heartbreaking, we suspect ONE of the cars will be destroyed and the other… will live to fight another day SPOILER ENDS.

So, what do you think? Are you excited to hit the cinema in November to let bustin’ make you feel good again? Let me know…
