So, more big news from the world of Sony’s Spider-man movies as it seems the mazing Olivia Wilde may have signed up for a big screen superhero outing for her second movie.
Wilde, who is probably best known as 13 in House MD and then as Quorra in TRON: Legacy, made her directing debut in the not-quite-as-good-as-everyone-said-but-still-pretty-good Booksmart now she’s set to direct a new Sony Spider-verse movie (here) that is being wildly speculated as being Spider-Woman, which has been part of the plan reportedly at Sony for a while now (here).
Last year, Olivia Wilde made her directorial debut with Booksmart, which earned rave reviews and cemented her status as a filmmaker on the rise. Now, it looks like she’s about to make the jump to the superhero genre. Deadline is reporting that Sony has hired Wilde to co-write and direct a movie centering on a female Marvel hero. Additionally, rumor has it that Spider-Woman will be the film’s main character.
Wilde will write the movie alongside frequent collaborator Katie Silberman based on an early script by Gary Spinelli – it will be produced by Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor.
Fans will know of course that Spider-Woman has been several people over the years including Jessica Drew and Gwen Stacy but we’re hearing it’s probably the Drew version.
Whatever it is, we now know it’ll be related to the MCU as well as the Sony-verse.
What say you all? I love Wilde and, while I’m not the biggest fan of Book Smart, I’ll be excited for this and, just for the record, I’d love if she starred in it too in some capacity.
Let me know your thoughts, gang.
