It looks like we have a couple of contenders for the lead role in the Shazam! movie.
A few days ago we heard that Warners/DC were on the search for the role of young Billy Batson (here) and now we have some cool new details.
According to That Hashtag Show (full video below) Joshua Sasse (Galavant) and wrestler John Cena are the two frontrunners for the superhero role.
Interesting choices… given that Shazam! is actually a boy in the body of a god, we can see Cena bringing the right amount of goofy to the role.
On top of this, we have a rumoured script synopsis that seems to stick pretty close to the source material including the breakdown of Billy’c character: Male, 12-15 years old. A teenager who becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal. Granted access to incredible powers by the wizard Shazam, he speaks the wizard’s name and is struck by a lightning bolt that gives him the powers of the gods.
As for the movie plot? Well: Based on the DC Comics character “Shazam!” Billy Batson becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal, when he says the magic word “Shazam! The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes. The wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.
It sounds like this could be a real fun entry in the DC Cinemtaic universe and certainly one to look forward to.
