With Cobra Kai season six coming to an end with the final five episodes expected to arrive just ahead of Valentine’s Day next year, star Ralph Macchio is looking ahead to see what’s next for the ‘Myagi-verse’.

After appearing in three Karate Kid movies and now six seasons of Cobra Kai, Macchio, in a new interview, said that ending the show “just feels right” to “land it but in a great way,” but is quick to say that the series will lead nicely into the next chapter in the, as he calls it, Myagi-verse, with Daniel set to appear on the big screen again opposite Jackie Chan on new movie Karate Kid Legends which is set three years after the fianle of Cobra Kai: “It was not a quick decision, because it was about protecting the Daniel LaRusso character, and finding where he would be at that point, and then protecting the whole legacy in the Miyagi-verse,” he says.

Once we were able to line that up, for the ‘Cobra Kai’ story to lead into the new film — even though they’re separate ecosystems — it all made sense for me. Then, working with Jackie was just super exciting. I started this on the big screen. How cool is it to get it back to the big screen?”

Very cool indeed, given that by the time Legend comes out, Macchio will have been playing LaRusso for a whopping forty years! Man, I feel old!

After that, the young Mr Myagi series is still being developed, focusing on the character played in the first four Karate Kid movies by the late Pat Morita; fans will likely have noticed that new aspects to Mr Myagi’s character were disclosed in Cobra Kai season 6 which will most likely be the basis for where the new series takes place.

Because the Myagi series is a prequel, it won’t feature Macchio but will we see Daniel again after Karate Kids Legends? “I don’t want to overstay the welcome of a character that’s so beloved,” he says, “but he’s aging like I am, so there could be other areas to explore as well. Never say never.”

Yeah, we’ll see him again… but we also want to see more of William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence, just sayin’.

Cobra Kai’s final five episodes are expected to hit Netflix on February 13, 2025.
