It’s been a weekend for DC fans and for fans of Zack Snyder in particular as we finally got the trailer (here) for the now famous/infamous Snyder Cut of Justice League and we also have it confirmed that it will be a four-hour TV event, so should have so much unseen awesomeness in it.
And now it seems that, as we all probably hope, the Justice League may not be the end of the story for Snyder or the DC Universe he kicked off with Man of Steel.
So, there’s a rumour going around that basically Snyder’s Justice League release will kick off a new corner of the multiverse where his vision of the DC universe will continue on HBO Max while on the big screen we will be getting all sorts of movies floating around the core DCEU.
This new fractured universe could see Ben Affleck finally make the Batman movie we were all excited for or it may see the second Justice League movie we were promised all those years ago.
Or not. It’s all up in the air right now.
But, it does seem that Snyder, in a new interview (bottom of the page) himself isn’t exactly saying he’s done with DC after Justice League.
“When I made the movie, the design of the movie, I always thought we would do this movie and I’d be setting up a bunch of stuff for what would come after it. It is what it is… I’m not expecting… I don’t know what’s going to happen, but my expectations are not ‘Oh, Warner Bros. is going to ask me to make another movie’,” Snyder says.
Talking about his plans for Lex Luthor after the movie Snyder goes on: “There is a whole Lex Luthor concept I had that would unfold over a longer narrative trajectory.”
Before adding: “I don’t know, we’ll see.”
But, in sticking with this idea, a new rumour from Mikey Sutton’s Geekosity Mag which has, it must be said, a great record when it comes to accurate scoops, says that, if Justice League is the winner HBO Max are hoping, it will open a whole new door for Snyder to step back into the world he created.
Sutton reports there are “early talks of a Justice League sequel” depending on how the new TV event performs. This makes sense because, as we all know, Justice League was set to be two movies and it’s pretty much certain that the new movie will end on a cliffhanger.
So you know the fans will be petitioning for a sequel once the credits roll anyway.
“Whether Zack Snyder is involved or not remains to be seen,” the report goes on, but if JL is the hit HBO Max hope, the sequel “will be his to turn down”.
Personally, I adore Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition and I’m totally stoked for his Justice League and, if it’s as good as I expect, I can’t wait to keep my seat warm for the sequel.
Thoughts?
The full four-part Justice League is expected to release on HBO Max in 2021.
