Ok, so remember the end of Captain America: Civil War when Steve Rogers AKA Captain America breaks into the Raft and frees his fellow heroes after dropping the shield?
Well, we have to be honest, we never gave it much thought at the time, but it seems that not only was it a big moment for The Avengers, it was a big moment for the MCU as a whole… and not just because a few od our favourite heroes are now on the run, but because it was the end of Marvel’s biggest hero… Captain America.
Chatting to the Huffington Post, directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed that Rogers is no longer Cap in the MCU. Joe told the outlet: “I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity. [It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”
What exactly this means for the character is unknown at this point… although we can’t imagine we’ll see Rogers fighting Thanos the Infinity War without putting on the suit.
However, as we know, There are two other prominent MCU characters at the moment who are both heirs to the throne in the form of Bucky Barnes AKA The Winter Soldier and Sam Wilcon AKA Falcon, so we could yet see one of them lifting the shield that rogers dropped.
Whatever the future holds, we’re sure Rogers’ story in the MCU isn’t finished yet and we have no doubt, with the Russos working on it, it will be an interesting story that lies ahead.
