There’s no arguing that the last Jurassic World movie was, well, a bit crap.
However, there short released last week (watch it here) showed that the franchise still has legs if handled right. And nothing gets the public’s interest better than bringing back original, loved characters.
Yes, Jurassic Park original stars Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern are all returning for Jurassic World III alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with Colin Trevorrow back directing.
Neill played Dr Alan Grant in the original movie and the third one, with Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm popping up in the first, second and most recent Jurassic outing. Dern’s Dr Ellie Sattler was in the first movie and made a very brief appearance in the third movie with Neill.
This is the first time the three will have been together since the first movie in 1993.
Is it fan service? Yes.
Is it damage control after the last movie? Yes.
Do we care? As long as they are all significant characters that do justice to their original portrayal? Nope. Not at all.
Universal’s SVP Production Sara Scott is overseeing production on behalf of the studio.
Dern made the announcement on Twitter following a fan screening of Battle at Big Rock (the short movie) last night:

Shortly after, the movie’s main Twitter account tweeting the trio’s return:
