Are we heading towards Star Wars Episodes X, XII and XIII?
Word is that Simon Kinberg and Lucasfilm are developing a new Star Wars trilogy that may or may not be the next three chapters in the core saga.
The trilogy will be written by Kinberg with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy producing.
The report says: “I heard this will comprise Episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga that began with George Lucas’s 1977 first film, which, along with Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, reshaped the global blockbuster game. Insiders disputed my intel that Kinberg will continue that storyline, saying this instead will begin a new saga, and sit alongside percolating Star Wars projects with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover. As usual, Lucasfilm and Disney are not commenting.”
Kinberg has had a very hit-and-miss career so far, but he’s been involved in Fox’s X-Men movies, the first two Deadpool movies and various other projects but on the Star Wars front, he worked with Dave Filoni on creating the superb Rebels animated series and was also a consultant on The Force Awakens, so he’s no stranger to Star Wars or, more importantly, quality Star Wars.
Star Wars has been mired in recent years with projects announced and never reaching fruition, so it’s not entirely clear if this will ever happen but we’ll hold tight and as there’s more news on what the project is and if it’s likely to actually happen, we’ll keep you posted.
